Compono vs Greenhouse

Two platforms that agree gut-feel hiring is the enemy, and attack it differently. Greenhouse is the reference ATS for structured hiring: scorecards, interview kits and consistent evaluation for every role. Compono goes a layer deeper, measuring how each candidate actually works and how they fit the culture you've measured. Here's the honest breakdown.

Before the brand: applicant tracking systems

An applicant tracking system earns its keep. If you hire at any volume you need requisitions, pipelines, approvals and job advertising in one place, and the good ATSs handle that with little friction. What an ATS can't do is tell you whether the person you're about to hire will succeed. Most screen on keywords and CV history, which is how teams end up running a tidy process and still making wrong hires. One more thing worth knowing before you compare brands: some ATSs are pure-play recruitment tools, others are modules inside an HRIS, and the difference shows in depth.

What Greenhouse does genuinely well

  • Structured hiring as a discipline. Scorecards, interview kits and consistent evaluation are the product's spine, and they genuinely reduce ad-hoc, gut-feel interviewing.
  • An integration marketplace with real range. One of the most extensive marketplaces and open APIs in the category, covering assessments, background checks, HRIS, video interviewing and sourcing.
  • AI with its head screwed on. The June 2026 release is explicitly framed as strengthening structured hiring rather than shortcutting it, with humans making the final call. That's the right posture, and worth crediting.
  • Early MCP adoption. Greenhouse MCP (broadly available July 2026) lets teams query and drive Greenhouse from AI assistants, ahead of most ATS rivals, alongside reporting and DE&I analytics mid-market talent teams actually use.

Where Compono differs

Greenhouse made hiring processes consistent, and deserves the credit for that. But structure applies to the process, not the person: scorecards capture interviewer opinion, structured or not, while screening stays CV and application-led. Culture and team fit remain unmeasured unless you bolt on an assessment partner, and even then the data stops shortly after the hire.

Compono puts measurement underneath the structure. Every candidate completes a validated work-personality assessment and is matched against your measured culture. The same data then flows into engagement, development and competency, so you can see whether your hiring decisions actually hold up. Consistent process, plus evidence about the person.

More than a hiring tool

Everything above compares hiring capability, because that's the job an ATS is bought for. Compono Hire is one product on a shared people dataset: Engage measures the culture candidates are matched against, Develop builds capability where measurement says it's missing, and Assure handles competency and credentialling. That shared dataset is the difference: the culture you measure is the culture you hire against.

Frequently asked questions

Is Compono a replacement for Greenhouse?

For mid-market teams that want measurement inside the hiring decision, yes. Compono Hire covers the recruitment workflow with native culture-fit matching. If your priority is a best-of-breed stack wired through a huge integration marketplace, Greenhouse is stronger there.

Does Greenhouse measure culture fit?

Not natively. As of July 2026, Greenhouse structures interviewer evaluation through scorecards, but screening is CV and application-led and behavioural or psychometric assessment comes via marketplace partners. Compono measures work personality and culture fit inside the platform.

How do Greenhouse's 2026 AI features compare with Compono?

They solve different problems. Greenhouse's June 2026 AI wave (Notetaker, Job Kickoff Agent, Candidate Insights Agent, Greenhouse MCP) makes a structured process faster and better documented. Compono's people science measures the candidate and the culture so the decision itself is grounded in behavioural data.

Is Greenhouse available in Australia?

Greenhouse sells to and is used by Australian companies, but no Australian office or AU data residency commitment is publicly confirmed as of July 2026, and support runs on US and European time zones. Compono is Australian-owned and Brisbane-based.
