One continuum, three styles
More leader controlMore team autonomy
DirectiveYou decide and give clear instructions.
DemocraticYou guide, and the team shapes the decision.
Non-DirectiveThe team decides. You support when needed.

Three leadership styles.
One fits this task best.

Directive leadership

High control and structure. You give clear instructions, set specific goals and make the key decisions. It suits moments that need quick decisions, or a team that needs clear direction to succeed.

Democratic leadership

Collaboration and shared decision-making. You guide the team toward a common goal and bring their input into the decision. It suits work where different perspectives and team ownership matter.

Non-Directive leadership

A hands-off approach. You give the team autonomy and trust them to make their own decisions, guiding only when needed. It suits highly skilled teams that need little supervision.

What I loved most was that it didn't feel like a box-ticking exercise. It gave us shared language for how we communicate, make decisions, support each other and get the best out of each other as a leadership team.
