BambooHR pricing is quote-based, but 2026 buyer reports put it on a per-employee, per-month (PEPM) model at roughly $10 for the Core plan, $17 for Pro and $25 for Elite, with a flat minimum of around $250 a month for teams of 25 or fewer and add-ons such as applicant tracking billed on top. Here is how the cost builds up, what to budget for, and where the figures come from.
BambooHR does not publish prices on its website, so every figure below comes from third-party buyer reports and market analysis rather than a rate card. Treat them as estimates to plan against, and confirm them in your own quote.
According to recent market analysis, BambooHR pricing is generally described as per employee per month (PEPM) with Core and Pro tiers, plus optional add-ons layered on top. Multiple reports indicate the Core plan is commonly reported at about $10 per employee per month, the Pro plan at about $17 and the Elite plan at about $25 per employee per month.
| Plan | Reported cost (PEPM) | Built for | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | About $10 | Small teams leaving spreadsheets | Employee database, self-service, time-off management, basic reporting, benefits tracking |
| Pro | About $17 | Growing teams | Automated onboarding and offboarding, e-signatures, custom reporting, custom workflows and branding |
| Elite | About $25 | Larger mid-market | Everything in Pro plus advanced performance management, deeper payroll integration, API access |
| Minimum (25 or fewer staff) | Flat, around $250 a month | Micro and small businesses | Applies instead of PEPM until you pass 25 employees |
The tiered structure means you pay for the level of administrative complexity you have now. The catch is that upgrading a tier across a few hundred employees is a big jump, so check exactly which features sit in which tier before you sign.
Core is BambooHR's entry point, built for small businesses moving off spreadsheets. It gives you a reliable system of record: a centralised employee database, self-service so staff can update details and check leave balances, automated time-off requests and approvals, standard alerts and a company calendar. It is strictly administrative. It does not help you recruit, develop or engage anyone, which is fine at 30 people and starts to bite as you grow.
Pro adds automated onboarding and offboarding workflows with task lists and electronic signatures, plus custom reporting and analytics so HR can build the views a board or leadership team wants. It also brings custom workflows and enhanced branding. Talent functions like applicant tracking may still sit outside the tier as add-ons, so read the inclusions carefully.
Elite layers on advanced performance management (goals, 360-degree feedback cycles, compensation structures) and deeper payroll integration, and its main differentiator is API access for connecting BambooHR to finance, learning and IT systems. Even at this tier, BambooHR remains a traditional human resources information system (HRIS): it manages processes and tracks data rather than measuring behaviour or predicting team performance.
The base PEPM rate covers HR administration. Several things most teams need are sold separately, which is why the invoice often lands above the first quote.
Build your business case on total cost of ownership. Map every feature your team needs, request one bundled quote that includes the add-ons, and you avoid the budget surprise three months into implementation. Our HR software pricing guide covers the general pattern of per-employee models, tiers and implementation fees if you are comparing several vendors.
Per-employee pricing does not work for vendors at very small headcounts: five people at $10 each is $50 a month, which barely covers support. Multiple 2026 reviews say BambooHR uses a flat minimum around $250/month for companies with 25 or fewer employees instead of standard PEPM billing. Whether you have 5, 15 or 24 employees, the monthly cost stays flat until you cross 25.
For a 10-person startup that is an effective $25 per employee, well above the advertised $10 Core rate. Weigh whether you have enough administrative complexity to justify the minimum, or whether to wait until headcount grows. Once you pass 25 employees the model shifts to standard PEPM and gets more cost-effective at scale.
Contract flexibility matters as much as the monthly rate. Reports describe BambooHR as quote-only, starting at just $10/employee/month for the Core plan and month-to-month contracting, which means you can add or remove modules, or move platforms, without multi-year buyout clauses.
Charities and non-profits can do better: reports indicate a 15% discount for registered nonprofit organisations. It is also worth asking about annual billing incentives, since many SaaS vendors offer a month free or a percentage off for paying a year upfront.
Using the reported figures, a 200-person company on the Pro plan would budget roughly $3,400 a month for the base subscription (200 × $17), plus $600 to $1,000 a month if it adds the ATS, plus any time-tracking or performance modules, plus a one-off implementation fee. A 20-person company on Core would pay the flat minimum of around $250 a month regardless of tier maths. Run your own headcount through the same arithmetic and then ask the vendor to confirm it in writing.
For process risk, usually yes. Automating time-off requests, onboarding workflows and document signing saves HR teams real hours each week: if an HR manager earning $80,000 a year saves 10 hours a week on manual data entry, the software pays for itself in reclaimed time. Centralised records also make audits easier, and the cost of one compliance fine or legal dispute often dwarfs a year's subscription. It is a well-regarded system of record for small and mid-sized businesses, and its month-to-month terms lower the risk of trying it.
Where it stops earning its keep is people insight risk. BambooHR, like most HRIS platforms, records what happened (leave taken, review completed, candidate moved to interview). It does not tell you why new hires fail, which teams are quietly disengaging, or whether your culture is helping or hurting retention. If those are the problems on your desk, an administrative system of record will not solve them, and neither will a bolt-on ATS module that processes resumes and tracks stages. Our guide to BambooHR's limitations for growing teams covers where buyers hit the ceiling.
If your need is payroll, leave and a clean employee record, compare BambooHR against other HRIS products on price, local payroll and support; our BambooHR alternatives guide does that comparison. If your need is better hiring, engagement and capability, you are shopping in a different category.
Compono is a talent intelligence platform, not an HRIS. It does not run payroll and it will not replace BambooHR's leave management. What it does is capture the people data BambooHR does not: Compono Hire assesses candidates for organisation fit, job fit and personality fit alongside skills, and the wider platform links that to engagement and development data so decisions come with evidence. Many customers run it alongside an HRIS. The Compono vs BambooHR page sets the two side by side so you can see which problem each one solves.
Compono sits alongside your system of record and adds the hiring, engagement and capability evidence that BambooHR-style platforms leave out.
See how it worksBambooHR operates on a quote-based model, but industry reports indicate the Core plan is around $10 per employee per month, the Pro plan around $17 and the Elite plan roughly $25 per employee per month. Add-ons increase this base cost.
Yes. For companies with 25 or fewer employees, BambooHR is reported to charge a flat minimum of approximately $250 a month rather than billing per employee.
Usually not. The applicant tracking system (ATS) is typically an optional add-on, reported at an additional $3 to $5 per employee per month on top of the base subscription.
Yes. Registered non-profit and charity organisations are reported to receive a 15% discount on their BambooHR subscription.
BambooHR is reported to offer month-to-month contracting, so you are not locked into multi-year agreements, though annual payment discounts may be available if you commit.
