We’ve shipped roleplay coaching in Hey Compono, our AI-powered coach built on the same Work Personality framework that powers the platform. If you haven’t met Hey Compono yet, it’s a private coach that adapts to how you actually think, communicate and make decisions. This release teaches it something new: to play the other side of a conversation, in character, so you can practise before the moment that counts.
Most of us never get to practise the conversations that decide things. The job interview. The pay rise you want to ask for. The pitch to a room that can say no. We walk in cold and hope.
Roleplay coaching changes that. Pick a scenario and Hey Compono takes on the other role and stays in it. There’s a panel of high-stakes work conversations to choose from: job interviews, one-on-ones, asking for a raise, a pitch. Tap one and you’re straight into a voice conversation, with ready-made starters so you don’t have to think about how to begin. Job interviews are where this first release goes deepest.
Here’s where it gets clever. Paste the actual job description into Add context and Hey Compono builds the interview around that exact role: its seniority, its competencies, the things you’ll really be tested on. Most AI gives you generic advice. Hey Compono interviews you for the job you’re actually going for.
The openers stay natural, so you ease in rather than copping a curveball from the first question. Practise the whole interview, or drill into a single question type, from “tell me about yourself” to the competency and technical questions.
Coach mode is yours to set: get feedback after each answer while it’s fresh, or hold it to the end and run the interview uninterrupted. The same trick works beyond hiring, too. Paste in any text that sets the scene, like notes from a meeting you want to prep for, and the roleplay adapts.
This is the part we’re proudest of. Run a job interview roleplay and the session ends with an Interview Performance Scoring card, built on the STAR method that interviewers are trained to look for (situation, task, action, result). You get an overall score out of 25, a short verdict on where you landed (think “enthusiastic, but unprepared”), and a one-to-five rating across five dimensions:
Below the card you get your strengths, your top fix, and a rewrite of your weakest answer. Not just “that one was soft”, but a worked example of what a stronger version sounds like. Download the transcript, or jump straight back in and practise again.
Anyone walking into a high-stakes conversation. A candidate prepping for the interview of their career. A manager getting ready for a one-on-one they’ve been putting off. Someone building up to ask for a raise. The practice is shaped by your Work Personality, so the coaching meets you where you are rather than handing out generic advice.
It’s also the first step in something bigger. The scoring you see here is the foundation for what’s coming next for recruiters and teams: a way to give every candidate real interview prep, not just the lucky few. More on that soon.
Roleplay coaching is live in Hey Compono today. Pick a conversation you’ve got coming up, add the context, and have a practice run.
That’s the first of the AI releases we teased. There’s more landing over the next few weeks. See you next month.
